Karen Wrege
In 2005 after ten years of US Federal Government Service, Ms. Karen Wrege formed Wrege Associates a consultancy to international licensing authorities, private and non-profit businesses, and auction bidders in the United States. A partial list of clients include Market Design, Inc., BizAuctionPlace, Inc. as well as several major cable, commercial, and private wireless providers in the US.
Ms. Wrege served as manager of the US Federal Communications Commission's spectrum auctions beginning in 1994. These auctions allocated newly opened frequencies for commercial telecommunications use and brought in more than $15 billion dollars to the U.S. Treasury. Ms. Wrege oversaw complete software development and implementation of these electronic auctions. This project required converting economic game theory rules for simultaneous multiple round auctions to a working electronic auction model that had never been implemented before.
Over the past several years, Ms. Wrege managed the development of the first multi-round combinatorial auction for the US Government. The system processed hundreds of thousands of bids from thousands of bidders in multiple auctions simultaneously and resulted in the flawless completion of 59 high-stakes auctions. The auction system was copyrighted and sold to the Mexican Ministry of Telecommunications for their spectrum auction program. It won a bronze medal from the Computerworld Smithsonian Awards for innovation in Government.
Prior to this, Ms. Wrege developed the first electronic auctions for the Resolution Trust Corporation that resulted in over $5 billion in sales of prime commercial real estate and non-performing residential loans. She has over 15 years experience in implementing high-stakes public and private electronic auctions. She has over 20 years of experience in managing software development projects. She graduated from The American University in 1984 and obtained a BS/BA in Business Administration.
